Dog was a better parent than baby's human parents

Owners of a dog in Ghana feared that their beloved pet had gotten lost or injured when he didn't return home at the end of the day, so they organized a search party to look for him. They looked for the pooch for most of the night -- and got the shock of their lives when they finally located him, because he wasn't alone.

Lying next to him was an abandoned newborn baby who'd been disposed of shortly after his birth.

The infant still had his umbilical cord attached, which had gotten infected while he was left in the woods to die. He likely would have died if this amazing dog hadn't cuddled up next to him all night to keep him warm.

How easy?

In order to get married in New York State in 1971, my fiancée and I had to prove that we were at least 18 years old and did not have syphilis or gonorrhea. In 2015, 14-year-olds can get married in New York--even if they have a venereal disease--if parents and a judge approve.

One aspect of family life that has not changed in decades--or even in millennia--is the ease of becoming pregnant. Almost any fertile female who has unprotected sexual intercourse or artificial insemination can become pregnant and probably become a mother.

There is no need to prove mental or physical health, no need for the approval of a judge, no need to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to care for the child until adulthood.

Because it is so easy to get pregnant, many children are neglected, abused or even murdered.

It's difficult to get permission to adopt a human child--or even a Chihuahua.

No permission is needed to get pregnant.

Unlike when voting or buying liquor, there is no need to attain a minimum age to have sex.

Unlike when renting a SCUBA tank or airplane, there is no need to prove training and certification to become pregnant.

If human beings thought more about becoming parents maybe there would be fewer abused and dead children.
